Fables of Taste Gaeta. 4 weekends dedicated to local flavours
From Saturday 4 to Sunday 26 of March, Gaeta hosts the first edition of Favole di Gusto. Every weekend of this month, via Indipendenza and via Buonomo will be adorned with stalls and food stands, cultural spaces and stages where artists and musicians perform.
Gastronomic stands with traditional Gaetan dishes
The Favole di Gusto itinerary winds its way along via Indipendenza, the characteristic center where shops and businesses of Gaeta will have on display their gastronomic specialties. The tielle, a typical dish of Gaeta, cannot be missed, together with the local olives and an array of dishes that have been made the village over centuries.
In various stands you can find liatina, a typical winter dish in which pork is the hero. In fact, to prepare it, different pieces of pork are used, from the more cartilaginous ones such as the head and feet, to the meatier ones. By adding cumin and tomato it is cooked until the meat comes off the bone. Once ready it is left to cool and served with the gelatin which forms when the broth thickens. An ancient dish to definitely try!
Leaving via Indipendenza, you can continue the tour in via Buonomo where other stands, stages and entertaining shows await you.
Culture and comedy of art in the square!
Speaking of shows, Favole di Gusto is not only gastronomy but also music, culture and entertainment. In via Indipendenza, Piazza Goliarda Sapienza with its book benches, every Saturday and Sunday, is transformed into a cultural center where the history of Gaeta is retraced through the culinary art and traditions of the city.
At Favole di Gusto there is also room for children. In fact, Piazza Vincent New Year’s Eve hosts playful and creative workshops dedicated to the little ones who can discover the uniqueness of the games of the past.
Clowns and actors of the commedia dell’arte cheer passers-by who, between one taste and another, enjoy the fascinating shows. And what about historical re-enactments? From the Caieta of the Roman age, to the women of 1870 passing through the knights of the duchy of Gaeta.
